A bit of history...
This Boona'Havn is the only Islay malt that does not have a peaty taste nor the typical salinity that we expect from Islay. Before 1963, most Boon'Havn was smoked.
The water comes from a well inside the distillery and goes up through the limestone, which avoids the peaty taste.
The distillery is located in a secluded cove by the sea. When the distillery was enlarged, a small edge was built to prevent cars from falling into the water!
In case of emergency, an old ship's bell recovered from a wreck was rung to call the distillery manager.
The Cola Ila distillery is just next door, but it produces a completely different type of whisky.
