This 38-year-old rum is presented in an elegant yet simple bottle. It has a deep amber colour, but its bright reflections give it a nice shine. The nose is complex and delicious. An aroma of baked banana develops over hints of spices and cinnamon. In the mouth, this rum has plenty of character; the first impression is soft and smooth. Dried fruit flavours initially dominate the taste, but spices such as cinnamon quickly join them. Hints of wood can also be detected. The 38 years spent in the barrel have not been wasted. The finish leaves a delightfully lingering aftertaste in the mouth. This ‘hors d'age’ rum is a fine discovery.
