Although a small country, Honduras benefits from an exceptional terroir, particularly highlighted by Flor de Copan, a brand that has enabled enthusiasts to discover the organoleptic charms of this region, whose history dates back to the ancient Mayan civilization. The history of the cigar and more generally of Honduran tobacco is full of tumults. A history that was largely affected by the arrival of the first conquistadores, who, in view of the use of Copaneco (the local tobacco) by the Maya, decided to take over this market. Tobacco from Honduras remained the most popular tobacco in Central America for almost two centuries, but was unable to make a breakthrough beyond that, mainly due to the competitive prices in Mexico and Guatemala. During the 1970s, the introduction of havanensis seeds and the creation of the La Flor de Copan factory established the reputation of the Copan cigar. Today, the main hanging valleys that make up the region are: Copan, Cucuyagua and San Juan de Opoa. As for the taste, Honduran cigars are generally spicier and their power moderate to strong.
